I love it when the kids in our class find books that interest them!  For reading at home in our class, there aren’t any books that they are required to read (we do that together during class time). 

 

When they read at home, they can read whatever material interests them, whether that’s a history book about WW2, a chapter book about horses, or instructions on how to repair a tractor.  It doesn’t matter to me! 

 

Students can record the name of the book and the date on their monthly Reading Camp sheet that will be in their agenda.  At the top of the page are some questions that you can ask your child about the things they are reading.  These questions are linked to some of the reading skills that we are practicing in class!

At the end of each month, all of the kids will have a reading check-in with me about our monthly skill and they can earn a camp badge!

 

Our goal is that each child should read at least 10-20 minutes per day.  They can read with you, read along with an audio book, or read on their own!
